A few interesting facts about Friuli-Venezia Giulia
The Grotta Gigante, located near Trieste, is the tourist cave with the largest natural hall in the world, with a length of 168 metres, a width of 76 metres and a height of almost 100 metres, with a total volume of 365,000m³. The formation of the Giant Cave of calcareous origin, began 10,000,000 years ago and it was not until 5-6,000,000 years later, following collapse and settlement, that its present appearance took shape.
In the province of Udine, in the village of Mortegliano, is Italy's tallest Christian bell tower, a building that rises 113 metres and 20 centimetres high into the sky. Work began on the morning of 28 March 1955 and continued until 19 September 1959. In addition to being the tallest bell tower in Italy, the Mortigliano bell tower is the third tallest in Europe and the fifth tallest in the world.
As part of the “Food Science and Technology” and “Viticulture and Oenology” courses, a number of beer varieties are produced with the participation of students and lecturers from the University of Udine.
