A few interesting facts about Umbria

The charm of the St Patrick's Well (first half of the 16th century), located in Orvieto is amazing. With its double spiral of steps - 248 of them - one can climb down as far as 54 meters underground. This is a fascinating and evocative place, a must-see to marvel at the fact that... on the way up you will never meet the people heading down!
Just a few people know that very likely the “Chronicles of Narnia” have their origin in Umbria, in Narni. Yes, because Clive Staples Lewis was very familiar with Roman history and while studying maps of Italy he noted the name Narni, charmed by the sound. On May 1, 1979, six speleologists discovered the passage to what is now “Narni underground” a location that can also be visited by people with reduced mobility. Narni, a town with ancient origins, is the geographical centre of Italy.
If you travel to Umbria, you cannot miss a stop in Assisi. It is a town of great spiritual importance and the birthplace of Saint Francis. Beyond the church, the square and the narrow streets, it is worth visiting the Hermitage of the Carceri, on Mount Subasio, to understand how St. Francis experienced the essential nature of life and prayer.
