A few interesting facts about Abruzzo

The Campo Imperatore hostel, at 2,115 m above sea level is the highest in Europe.

On the Abruzzo coast, it is possible to find the ancient trabocchi (or trabucchi). They are platforms overlooking the sea built using Aleppo pine trunks. The platforms can be reached on foot via wooden walkways also supported by these tree trunks. The trabocchi have 'antennae' (trunks) suspended in the air that used to hold the fishing nets. Today the trabocchi are home to gourmet restaurants.

Abruzzo is home to the Gran Sasso National Laboratories, a huge underground research and experimentation centre overlooked by about 1.5 km of rock. The 180,000 m3 underground facility employs 1,100 researchers from 29 countries around the world. There are many famous experiments promoted by the laboratories, and just as many in which the research facility has participated, such as Borexino and Cngs.
