A few interesting facts about Liguria

The first Italian bank, founded on April 23, 1407 with the name "Casa delle compere e dei banchi di San Giorgio", became "Banco di San Giorgio" in 1797, the year in which the Ligurian Republic withdrew the management of public debt from the "casa", leaving it with the task of collecting savings. At the old site, next to what is now Piazza Caricamento, boats could be brought in directly to deposit the money coming from the business.
Genoa's maritime lighthouse (the 'lantern' for the Genoa people) is the tallest in the Mediterranean and the second tallest in Europe. It measures 77 metres. The light of the lighthouse is just a 220 volts, 1,000 watts lamp that emits light visible even at a distance of 50 km, thanks to the optical amplification of the Fresnel lens.
Bussana Vecchia is a small village that was almost destroyed by an earthquake on February 23, 1887. Following the earthquake, the village was abandoned, but at the end of the 1950s Turin-based ceramist Mario Giani decided to breathe new life into the ruins of Bussana, founding a community of artists who over the following decades restored most of the buildings, respecting the original style and materials. Today Bussana vecchia attracts artists from all over the world and is full of beautiful cultural sites to visit.
